Kind of a follow-up to this piece: [link]
No, don't worry. I haven't gone on another SzayelHime craze. I just think these three characters fit their respective roles better, personality wise, than the others I had chosen.
Think about it:
Szayel as The Phantom- I was listening to the soundtrack again on my way back from Florida a few weeks ago and got to the part where the Phantom is laughing (rather manically @ 0:59 and 1:10) at Carlotta's croaking, and for some reason I thought about the Bleach-casted Phantom of Las Noches. That's when I realized that, while Ulquiorra's role is similar to that of the Phantom's, his personality is not. I love him, but his emotional range is rather...limited in that respect--he couldn't pull off the madness. Szayel, on the other hand, is the epitome of madness and I think he would fill the role (emotionally) better than Ulquiorra could.
Also, as weird as it is to say, I see Szayel being better at overt seduction than Ulquiorra. Seriously, can you imagine Ulquiorra singing Past the Point of No Return or even to some degree Music of the Night? I can, but it's...not the same. The passion is lacking. The only place in the story that I can see Ulquiorra being better suited for the role is at the end, with the redemptive kiss.
Ishida as Raoul - Both characters are protective of their love interests, both are fairly level-headed, and both know that sometimes its more beneficial to step back and plan rather than rush in head first (with Raoul, I'm speaking of his plan to capture the Phantom near the end of the musical. Sure, it didn't work, but...I guess the thought counts?)
That, and I would much rather see Orihime lock lips with Ishida for "All I Ask of You" than Ichigo.
Luppi as Carlotta- Szayel as Carlotta is amusing, don't get me wrong, but Luppi IS Carlotta. xD That, and it amuses me that he and Grimmy would be "together."
(OMG, YAY LUPPI! But yeah, sorry that for your first appearance you're in drag. )
