Sorry, TREA. I guess it's a "just kidding" on that "just kidding." That was totally the reboot button you pressed.
Now, I know some of you are wondering why I felt the need to reboot the series. Yeah, the chibis have arms now and the jump would be rather drastic if I continued where I left off, but there were more reasons than simply a stylistic change. I've had this idea of telling the "TREAverse" story in a cohesive manner (originally as a fanfic) for a while now.
Some newer watchers might not know this, but TREA wasn't created with the intention of being in more than one or two strips at most--and he was only a cube. But somehow, the little bugger stuck around much longer than I thought, even gaining the android for we all know and love, popping up everywhere. And that's where the issue lies: TREA's "story," as it were, is told in so many different sources (Ask TREA strips, other comic strips, fan fictions, etc), it's hard to pin down what is canon and what is simply rule of funny. And trust me, there's a lot of "rule of funny"--or other things that contradict each other (is TREO reassembled or isn't she?).
But why not just replace the old strips with newer ones, you might be asking, instead of remaking/rebooting everything? Well...here's the thing: I still like the older strips--and the armless chibis. There are so many memories of getting to know dA'ers, going through college, etc. I don't want to erase that. Besides, why shouldn't we have both?
I apologize to those, especially older, watchers who were hoping for brand new material. Hopefully the re-imaginings will be enough, and if it's any consolation, there will be strips with new content as well, since I plan on expanding on certain parts in TREA's history (his cube period, anyone?). Oh yeah, and we may see some faces who were left out the first go round.
Anyway, I hope you guys are as anxious as I am. This is the first time since I created those first batch of armless chibis years and years ago that I feel...like myself. I haven't felt this passionate in a long time.
Just...don't expect them to come out as fast as before. Not just because I'm working now, but...those arms really slow down the comic making process.
